Gold Weekly Outlook: Range Between 4073 Sweep and 4216 High, Light Calendar
Gold closed at 4166.74, just above the prior week midpoint of 4145.01, inside a 4073.82 to 4216.21 range. With no scheduled catalysts, liquidity around Friday's extremes and the weekly midpoint may guide the week.

Directional context
Structure is mixed heading into the week. Price swept sell side liquidity at 4073.82 during the Wednesday New York session, then recovered through Thursday and Friday to close at 4166.74. That close sits in modest premium relative to the 4145.01 midpoint, but no body close has yet broken above the 4216.21 weekly high or below the 4073.82 weekly low. Until one side is accepted, the market reads as a range with a rebalancing bias around the midpoint.
The economic calendar is light for the week ahead, so session timing and liquidity are likely to matter more than data. Asia has often set the early extremes (the 4216.21 and 4200.13 highs both printed in Asia last week), with London at 07:00 UTC and New York at 12:00 to 13:00 UTC tending to test them. A sweep of an Asia high or low followed by a reversal would be consistent with last week's behavior, while a displacement with a body close beyond a level would carry more weight than a wick.
On inflation, last week's prints leaned hot. Headline and core CPI and PPI all matched or exceeded forecasts, and PPI was well above expectations. If the market continues to price a firmer rate path, real yields and the dollar could stay supportive and cap gold rallies. The recovery after the CPI drop suggests some of that repricing may already be absorbed, but with no major data due, rate expectations may drift on Fed commentary and yield moves rather than fresh prints. This is context, not a directional signal.
Positioning adds a backdrop. The latest Gold COT report (as of 2026-10-13) shows managed money net long at 107,089 contracts, down 3,898 on the week. Longs fell by 2,354 and shorts rose by 1,544. That is the fourth consecutive week of net reduction, and the 3 year index at 54 places positioning near the middle of its range, so it is neither crowded nor depleted. The data predates the Wednesday low, so it does not capture the later recovery. Gradual long reduction can mean less forced liquidation risk on a move lower, but it does not time any move. It is best read alongside the liquidity map below.
Scenario A
Bullish path
A bullish scenario would need acceptance above Friday's New York high at 4198.86, ideally with a candle body close above the 4200.13 Asia high from Tuesday. That would shift short term structure higher and open a path toward buy side liquidity at the 4216.21 weekly high. Holding above the 4145.01 midpoint on pullbacks, particularly after a London or New York sweep of lows that is quickly reclaimed, would support the case. A close above 4216.21 would be the first break of the prior week range to the upside.
Scenario B
Bearish path
A bearish scenario would begin with a body close below Friday's low at 4147.48 and the 4145.01 midpoint, which would put price back in discount. Displacement lower could then target the 4111.63 Thursday Asia low and, beyond that, the 4073.82 weekly low where resting sell side liquidity remains. A failed rally into the 4198.86 to 4216.21 area, where buy side stops may have built up, would also fit this path. A body close below 4073.82 would mark a clear break of the prior week range.

The upper liquidity cluster runs from 4187.24 (Friday Asia high) to 4198.86 (Friday New York high), 4200.13 (Tuesday Asia high) and 4216.21 (weekly high). Equal-high style stacking in this zone makes it a likely buy side target. The midpoint at 4145.01 is the premium and discount pivot, and Friday's low at 4147.48 sits just above it, so a close below that zone would be notable.
On the downside, 4111.63 (Thursday Asia low) is the first intermediate sell side level, followed by 4073.82, the weekly low swept on Wednesday during the post-CPI New York session. The weekly open at 4190.57 sits within the upper cluster. For a general framework on structuring decisions around these zones, see the Gold trading strategy page.

Execution notes
With no scheduled catalysts, the main risk is session-driven volatility rather than data. Last week showed how quickly range can expand around New York, with a 99.01 daily range on Wednesday and a 60 minute range of 92.62 after CPI. Liquidity is thinner in late Asia and around the weekly open, so wicks through obvious highs and lows can occur without follow-through. Wait for candle body closes rather than intrabar spikes, and expect headline or yield-driven moves around the London open and the New York 12:00 to 13:00 UTC window.
